This book club is a social forum for our district faculty and staff to discuss professional books.

This course is designed to provide participants with the basic knowledge, skills, and tools needed by general education and special education teaching pairs on how to implement in-class resource program instruction. It is based on the NJ Department of Education, Office of Special Education, Learning Resource Center guidelines, along with The Power of 2: Making a Difference Through Co-Teaching, by Marilyn Friend.
The following NJ Professional standards are addressed in this course:

5. Learning Environment
6. Adapt Curriculum for Special Needs

Upon completion of the workshop requirements, participants will earn 15 Professional Development hours.

This course is based on the text, The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners, by Carol Ann Tomlinson. The literature, materials, and assignments presented will assist in the development of an understanding of the theory and practice of differentiated instruction.
Course Description: This course describes the principles underlying differentiated instruction, offers techniques and strategies to promote an effective learning environment that gives students multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas. Specific strategies and techniques for differentiating content, process and product will be provided.
The purpose of this course is to assist teachers develop methods of helping more students in diverse classroom settings experience success.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will possess the skills necessary to be able to:

- Understand major theories of Differentiation and Understanding by Design.
- Acquire an understanding of various teaching styles and develop congruent techniques that encourage student engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve classroom instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners.
