Our classroom was full of extra excitement from the day we began working on the various Native American Digital Storytelling projects until we presented them at the Author’s Tea!

Sab Lab, Inc., the company your children work for during the day, assigned them a tribe and individual jobs in their group.  These jobs were Project Manager, Lead Technician, Recorder, Task Master/Time Keeper, Lead Writer, and Lead Researcher.  The group job assignment was to narrate a story as if you were an Indian child or adult in your tribe.  A list of criteria needed to be met.

The project was a huge success! The layers of learning that took place during this digital storytelling process were previously found only in a teacher’s dream!  There were a myriad of core curriculum standards in Social Studies, all five areas of Language Arts, and Technology that were accomplished in this project.  In addition, valuable social and business skills were learned and practiced.

To conclude, digital storytelling was overall a very positive experience for students as determined by observation, product and reflections in their journal writings about the project.  They successfully worked in groups, had fun creating the stories, and learned so much more than the original assignment dictated.

Enjoy as you watch and learn!!!
