Mrs. Bruggeman’s Homework Policy

Homework is assigned nightly to reinforce skills taught in class. Homework teaches responsibility and study skills.  It’s helpful to establish a homework routine early in the year. Students should be able to complete homework with some parent supervision. If you find the homework to be challenging, please contact me.

Reading Homework

Reading and spelling homework will be assigned nightly Monday through Thursday. Your child should be reading for 10-20 minutes each night. This time provides an opportunity to for you to read, discuss, and enjoy books with your child. I provide a nightly response sheet that should be returned daily. Answer one question each night.

Your child should be able to read the book comfortably.  I will be assigning books from the classroom but your child may pick a book from the library or from home. As a general rule, if your child misses more than 5 words on a page, the book is considered too difficult. If your child brings home a challenging book, you can read the book to the child. Nightly reading should be an enjoyable experience.

Spelling Homework

I will be assigning 10 spelling words each week. Words will include spelling patterns and frequent sight words. Spelling homework is assigned Monday through Thursday.

Math Homework

Math homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Homework will review skills taught in class.

Social Studies, Science and Special Projects

Throughout the year special projects or book reports will be assigned.

Again, thank you for your support at home.

  Happy Reading!!!   Mrs. Bruggeman
